Pricing and Other Info:
This page is here to provide a general idea of what my services cost. For a quote, please contact me by email at geenatowne@live.com, or message me via Facebook, Linked-in, Skype, or phone (geena.towne) and describe your project.
Due to necessity, any off-platform projects must be paid for up-front in advance. I can quote you and then if any partial refunds are needed, I can release them after project completion. If you would prefer to book me through an agency or plactform contact me via email or phone and we can discuss the options, or you can refer to my "contact and payment info" page.
I almost always operate on a fixed-price basis (per finished minute/hour, or per word count.) I may be willing to work on an hourly basis under the right circumstances.
Remember, when you hire direct with me for services, not only do you get great rates and personalized service, but I also provide my tracks royalty-free and full buy-out for all my clients, which means once my clients have paid the agreed total, my clients have full rights to use the recordings as often as they like, regardless of how widely they plan to use the recording.
I have determined my rates based on information from a variety of sources that I have gathered over the years pertaining to going rates, what is considered competitive in the industry, the actual labor that goes into various length recordings, reasonable cost of overhead, and algorithms that account for specific factors having to do with my numbers of years of experience, training and other qualifications.
My rates on a per word/minute basis for (single-take) 1min to 1 hour of finished recording are as follows:
1 to 5 words --------------- $30
6 to 50 words -------------- $55
50 to 75 words -------- $100 (75 words = 30 sec)
76 to 150 words------- $128 (150 words = 1 min)
151 to 200 words------ $190 (200 words = 1 min:20sec)
201 to 250 words------ $220 (250 words = 1 min:40sec)
251 to 300 words------ $245 (300 words = 2 min)
301 to 350 words------ $260 (350 words = 2 min:20sec)
351 to 400 words------ $275 (400 words = 2 min:40sec)
401 to 450 words------ $290 (450 words = 3 min)
451 to 500 words------ $310 (500 words = 3 min:20sec)
501 to 550 words------ $330 (550 words = 3 min:40sec)
551 to 600 words------ $350 (600 words = 4 min)
601 to 650 words------ $365 (650 words = 4 min:20sec)
651 to 700 words------ $375 (700 words = 4 min:40sec)
701 to 750 words------ $390 (750 words = 5 min)
751 to 800 words------ $415 (800 words = 5 min:20sec)
801 to 5000 words----- $1,030 (5000 words = 30 min)
5001 to 7500 words---- $1,300 (7500 words = 45 min)
7501 to 10,000 words-- $1,490 (10,000 words = 1hr)
Long-form:
50,000 words - $10,000 (5 hours finished recording) (or see Rate Options A,B, & C)
Rate Options A,B, & C for long-form projects:
A) Fixed-fee/One Lump Sum: Long-form projects (those over 10,000 words, or >1hr. of finished recording) require me to write up a contract, and also to clear out my schedule, rejecting other offers during the course of the production. Necessitates that I charge a rate sufficient to compensate for loss of regular clientele. So, if you need to have the whole thing done in one shot, and pay at the end upon completion, this is the most expensive option of the three, at $10,000 per 50,000 words (or 5 hrs finished recording.)
B) *Best Value!* Charge At Short-form Rate: I can break the entire project up into 1 hour (finished) portions, and charge at the much lower short-form rate of $800/10,000 words (about 60 minutes of finished recording) with the submission of each finished recorded hour, no contract necessary- pay as you go- milestone payments. Client must allow 10 days for each hour's-worth of production. It may be done much quicker than that (depending on the specs) but client MUST allow up to 10 days per finished hour. This is to prevent loss of other incoming business and regular clientele. I have many repeat short-form clients who frequently have revision requests and follow-up work from past projects, and I must remain available to them on a consistent basis.
C) Charge Hourly Instead of Fixed-Fee: I do not recommend paying hourly for long-form. I charge at a rate of $35/hr (and that's real-time hours of labor, not finished hours of recording) so the most cost-efficient option for the long-form client is option B. (Long-form voice-over is very wonderful, but very time consuming.)
FREE Custom Samples:
YES! Absolutely. I provide unlimited, 10 to 30 second, custom voice samples from your script, free of charge, during pre-production. Once we have your desired sound-stamp, I will begin the full-read. Any script revisions or "alternate takes" requests after the full-read is completed may require an additional charge (unless due to a mistake on my part) so make the most of the free custom samples in pre-production and make sure your script is free from errors! Tell me all your likes and dislikes.
A watermark may be added which, of course, will be removed if you decide to hire me for the project.
Background Music:
Some clients wish to add a background music track they have purchased the rights for. If you have a track you would like me to sync and mix-down with the voice track, I will do so for a fee. The fee will be assessed according to the additional hours required to make needed adjustments and edits. Sometimes there may be no adjustments, edits, or fade-ins/outs needed, in which case there may be no added charge. If you need me to provide a background track, I can work with you to find a track you like, and purchase it for you, then add the price of the track to your total bill. If you like one of the tracks I have for free in my database (request samples if interested) this may save you the cost of purchasing a track, but there may still be a fee for time compensation (within reason.) My hourly rate is $35. I will provide you with a cost estimate for approval before proceeding.
File Separation for Single Word Vocabulary work:
$45/hr = $45 per every 30 word files + per word production rate
Separating of word files = 30 words per hour @ $45 an hour
File separation of single words takes about an hour for every 30 words, so it's $45 per every 30 words. $15 for 15. $10 for 10. Less than ten is no charge. File separation fee is in addition to the per word/min production rate for the recording.
File Separation for Phrases:
$45/hr = $45 per every 20 phrases + per word production rate
File separation of phrases takes about an hour for every 20 phrases, so it's $45 per every 20 phrases. $15 for 10. Less than ten is no charge. File separation fee is in addition to the per word/min production rate for the recording.
Syncing:
Additional charge may apply if you need your voice-over track synced (timed) to a video. This fee will vary depending on word count, and will be estimated based on hourly rate of $35/hr of required labor. A two minute video can usually be synced within about 1 hr.
EQ, Compression & other Effects:
Most clients request a finished track with flat EQ and no added effects. For those clients, I will provide a full-production, ready-to-use, finished track, normalized to -3db, with noise-floor reduction. This is the industry standard for most voice-over agencies or platforms. It allows clients a slight amount of head-room for any compression or effects they might choose to add. There will be some natural front-end signal shaping by the microphone and pre-amp, but any post-production processing needs to be specifically requested.
Upon request, I will provide you with an additional track with any added/or alternative processing or effects (pre or post) that you would like to hear. There is no additional charge for that, however, if you intend to order additional tracks in the future from me, please let me know your preferences going forward, so I can take notes and make things as time-efficient and hassle-free as possible.
Format:
By default, I use mp3 for samples, and WAV 16-bit PCM, 44100 hertz for the final product. If you require any other formats, please let me know before I begin recording, as some types of formatting require pre-production set-up. Format conversions are included at no extra charge.
Revisions:
In order to keep full-script retake requests to a minimum, I provide unlimited, 10 to 30 second, custom voice samples from your script, free of charge, during pre-production. Once we have your desired sound-stamp, I will begin the full-read.
If a complete retake of the entire script is necessary, I charge 50% of the original per word/min price. That is half the price for doing the same amount of work over again, so it's a good deal for the client, price-wise, but not the best approach for time-efficiency. for this reason, I strongly recommend taking advantage of the custom samples to get the right sound-stamp prior to the full read. It saves everybody time.
Most revisions can be done with a small, seamless spot fix. I use punch and roll, non-destructive editing, so you should not be able to tell that a change was made.
If the mistake was on my end, I will fix it free of charge. If, however, the client wants to hear an alternate version or has script revisions for me to record, I will usually charge a modest fee to compensate for extra time spent.
*If you have a revision request:*
If you have changes to a script, and need a previously recorded track to be updated, please send me a marked-up copy of the original script. Please make it as clear as possible as to which text needs to be cut, and which text is the new text to sub in, as well as where in the script that occurs. Time-markers (to indicate where in the recording the change will occur) are also helpful, especially for longer recordings. Thank you!
ETA?
This depends on your total word count, and many other factors such as pacing, timing specs (ex: 1 or 2 second pauses between each sentence), and type of read (for example, is it filled with many different accents/DIALECTS, characters REQUIRING VOICE MODULATION, novelty or specialty technical words?) tHESE ARE ALL FACTORS THAT COULD EFFECT THE TIME-ESTIMATE.
Short-Form (5 minutes or less): Turnaround time is usually within 24 hours. 10 minutes or less, within 48 hours.
For anything over 10 minutes, I need to view your script before I can provide an estimate on how long production will take.
The general guideline I go by for longer reads is that (because of the need to juggle many smaller projects and revision requests all at once FOR MY ESTABLISHED CLIENTELE) it can take me up to 3 days per every 20 minutes of finished recording. Prepare for it to take (potentially) up to 2 weeks for every 1 hour of finished audio.
Payment:
For short-form, I am happy to receive payment upon completion of the finished work. For long-form of over 1 hour finished audio, a contract agreement may be necessary, or milestone payments, or escrow via a third-party platform. I Just need some type of insurANCE AGAINST having a client change their mind mid-project.
I can accept payment via Paypal, Payoneer, or other methods, as per request. Strictly No bitcoin. Let me know if you will need an invoice.
